Wimbledon 2022: Elena Rybakina Wins Career's First Grand Slam Title

Russian-born Kazak player Elena Rybakina won her maiden Grand Slam title by defeating Tunisia's Ons Jabur in a thrilling women's singles event at Wimbledon on 9 July.

Rybakina pulled off a thrilling three-set 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win to become champion in the centenary of the world's oldest Grand Slam.

Rybakina has become the first Kazakh tennis player to win a singles Grand Slam title.

No Kazakhstani men's or women's singles player had won a major singles title before Saturday.

During her surprise victory, Rybakina dropped just two sets in the entire competition.

The match went on for almost two hours and SW19 saw some entertaining action between the two players at the prestigious Center Court of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
